Monthly Luncheon Meetings 2015-16

Lakselaget meets the first Saturday of each month October through May (unless otherwise noted) to network, mentor, eat salmon, and receive information from a variety of noteworthy speakers. Topics range from the arts to health, to history, to sports, to heritage and beyond. Members gather to exchange greetings, network, and meet new friends. Wine and drinks are available for purchase. Only Members may register for luncheons and invite friends to join them. Online registration (or click here for a downloadable PDF for email reservation) will close at 7:55 p.m. the Monday before the luncheon. Please contact the Reservations Director if you would like to register after that time. There will be a $10 late fee.

Please join us at the home of Linda Jo Stuckey for our annual June Pot-Luck Picnic!  Linda Jo has graciously agreed to host this year's event.  Due to space limitations, the picnic is for Lakselaget members, only.  Please sign up your dish at the meeting in May, or by registering here with your dish in the 'COMMENTS' section.

(Please note: you must select a Salmon, Vegetarian, or Gluten meal to complete online registration for this event, however, this is indeed a pot-luck.)

Deb Nelson Gourley, owner of Astri My Astri Publishing, will display her abilities as researcher, author and publisher.  "An old trunk, a handwritten note, cemetery and courthouse records---these become the skeletal framework which the author then clothes with flesh, blood and bunads.”  Astri My Astri Publishing specializes in bilingual English Norwegian books on Norwegian Heritage, Culture, History, Language and Genealogy.  The books have won National Awards including the prestigious G. K. Haukebo Heritage Resource Award for Historical Emphasis.

Dr. Jenna R. Jambeck, Associate Professor at the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA), has been conducting research on marine debris (waste in our oceans) since 2001.  In November 2014 Jenna sailed across the Atlantic Ocean with 13 other women on the very first eXXpedition research voyage---a series of all-women sea voyages with the goal 'to make the unseen seen---from toxics within our bodies to the toxics in our seas'.  Malin Jacob, a well known Norwegian environmentalist, was a fellow crew-member.  Please join us to hear about this exciting voyage!

Stine Åsland began her own commercial waffle company in Norway. 'Telemarksrøra' became a huge success serving up Norwegian waffles with a variety of toppings that are nothing like the butter and syrup Americans are used to. From sour cream and strawberries to butter and caramelized cheese, one woman is taking her success around the world after an interesting beginning.

Sue Sutherland owns and operates Bunad Butikken in Ely, MN. She specializes in the construction of custom bunads using only authentic materials, design, and construction methods. Sue also teaches courses and sells bunad materials and accessories through her store.
