Elizabeth “Elsebet” Curtiss and Gina Moorhead

Elizabeth "Elsebet" Curtiss has spent most of her life learning about, teaching, and living the Norwegian language and culture.  At 11, she started attending Skogfjorden, Concordia´s Norwegian Language Village, and has now been on staff for 20 years. In addition to summers at Skogfjorden, Elizabeth has also taught Norwegian online and in person, in the states and in Norway. A year ago, Elizabeth was approached by Ingvill Kaasin, the original owner of Hovden Formal Farm Wear.  She was looking to move back to Norway and asked if Elizabeth and her sister, Gina, would be interested in taking over.  This opportunity felt like the right thing at the right time and has been a fantastic way for Elizabeth to continue to explore, share, and build upon her Scandinavian heritage.

The February 5, 2022 meeting of Lakselaget will be moved to a virtual format, beginning at 12:00 PM.

After an encouraging fall, when we were able to gather for lunch and fellowship, we have made the decision to move to a virtual meeting in February due to rising COVID numbers. There is no need to register for this event - just log into the meeting at 12:00 on February 5. I will send an update prior to the meeting with the Zoom information.

As a reminder, our February speaker will be Amy Boxrud, Executive Director, Norwegian American Historical Association (NAHA):

Amy is responsible for the daily operations of the association, in addition to leading the organization’s development, communications, and membership efforts. Prior to her work with NAHA, she gained 25 years of experience working in the fields of publishing, communications, and nonprofit management. Amy is a graduate of St. Olaf College, where she studied English and Norwegian. If her free time, she enjoys Nordic folk fiddling, volunteers on the board of a local nonprofit makerspace, and is pursuing a M.A. in public history.

For our February meeting, Amy will be speaking on the topic of "Thinking outside the (archival) box:  Discovering women's history with NAHA.

SHARING THE HISTORY

Founding members Ingeborg Sorensen and Leslee Hoyum will be present to share stories about Lakselaget history and we would also like to hear from you.   Do you have a story about Lakselaget that you would love to share? This could be about the fun way you got connected to the organization, about a particular meeting that was meaningful, or about what Lakselaget has meant to you. Reach out to Bren to share your story: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or feel free to be spontaneous the day of the meeting.

SILENT AUCTION – 20 ITEMS FOR 20 YEARSWe would like to offer a curated silent auction, with just 20 items representing each of Lakselaget’s 20 year. We are looking for donations such as event tickets (sports, theater, concert, museum, etc.), experiential items (classes or lessons, rounds of golf, wine or cider tasting), gift certificates, or new Scandinavian items. If you have something in mind that you would like to donate, please connect with Clara Boyum (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
