Sylvsmidja is Norway’s´ leading manufacturer of Bunad Silver, jewelry for the Norwegian National Costume. The company is rooted in long traditions of high-quality handcraft. For more than 80 years the craftsmen have perfected the workmanship and discovered the secrets of making the Bunad Silver that will last for generations. These skilled silver- and goldsmiths have the comprehensive experience and broad knowledge of the history and traditions necessary to make authentic Bunad Silver for all regions of Norway.
Our March speakers will include Anders Fagerthun, master goldsmith, and Anne Kari J. Salbu, 3rd generation owner and head of Sylvsmidjas’s export project.
They will share a presentation on:
- Sylvsmidja – the history from 1940 until today – a rough start
- The Sølje: The symbolism and secrets the sølje keeps.
- The Bunad: Excerpts from the story
Members are invited to bring their sølje pieces for evaluation. Cleaning demonstrations will also take place. Please watch for a follow up email to make a reservation for a time slot to have your jewelry evaluated.
